Nuremberg, January 30th, 2024: Global new energy manufacturing equipment leader, Lead Intelligent Equipment (LEAD), proudly announces a strategic alliance with Tiamat, a dynamic spin-off of the prestigious French research institute CNRS, globally recognized for its pioneering work in Sodium-Ion batteries. This collaboration is poised to redefine sodium-ion battery technology and accelerate the shift towards large-scale production.
Tiamat, having introduced the world’s first sodium-ion battery to the market, is now set to revolutionize the automotive and energy storage sectors through the industrialization of sodium-ion batteries. Their visionary plans include the establishment of a 5GWh gigafactory in Amiens by 2030, commencing construction in Q1 2024 for the initial 0.7 GWh unit. This ambitious project, backed by an investment exceeding €500 million, is anticipated to create over 1,200 jobs, contributing significantly to the region’s economic development.
The strategic partnership between LEAD and Tiamat is a crucial catalyst in advancing sodium-ion battery technology. LEAD’s expertise and collaborative approach will play a pivotal role in ensuring a swift and effective transition to large-scale production. This strategic collaboration not only enhances LEAD’s presence in France but also underscores the company’s commitment to global leadership in providing cutting-edge clean energy solutions.
Hervé Beuffe, CEO of TIAMAT, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We are thrilled to embark on the industrial phase of this project, thanks to the continued support from our historical investors and new partners. This enables us to produce and market our technology locally, addressing sovereignty and material availability concerns associated with conventional energy storage technologies.”
Nicolas Sebban, Deputy GM of LEAD France, shared his excitement about the alliance, stating, “We are delighted to announce this groundbreaking partnership with Tiamat. It underscores our commitment to advancing global clean energy solutions. Collaborating with Tiamat, we eagerly anticipate leading the sodium-ion battery revolution and contributing significantly to the sustainable future we envision.”
The partnership between LEAD and Tiamat is poised to revolutionize the clean energy landscape in Europe, propelling sodium-ion battery technology to unprecedented heights. With the commencement of the gigafactory construction and the inaugural units scheduled to roll out in Q4 2025, this collaboration is poised to make a lasting impact on the future of energy storage and electrification across the European continent.
